Our Story

Tribe was founded in San Francisco in 2018 by brothers Nick and Billy Palladino-King, and is dedicated to complete health and wellness.

The idea for Tribe originated after both brothers spent time in Asia, observing how spiritual and physical practices could be combined to create truly powerful changes in one’s body and mind. They quickly realized that no other studio in San Francisco was offering curated fitness classes, yoga, mediation, and personal training as part of a single membership.

Combining their passions for health and wellness with their business backgrounds, Tribe was created and now exists as a one-stop shop for all your health and wellness needs – both physically and mentally, inside the studio and beyond.

What’s in a Name

When picking a name and logo, “Tribe” came naturally. The brothers first sat down to decide what their core values were – what their company represents inside and out. On both their lists was ‘community’ and ‘service’, and thus the name Tribe was settled on. Pulling from their time spent in Asia, the “E” in the logo is represented by three brush strokes on top of one another – the Chinese character for 3, representing Tribe’s three modalities to wellness – Mind, Body, and Spirit.

The Founders

The Founders

Nick and Billy began working out with their father as kids, when the passion for fitness kicked in, and has only grown stronger since. Combining this passion with their sports backgrounds was the launch to their fitness and yoga journeys. Their careers began in the corporate world, but their passion drove them back to health and wellness. After many years of training, coaching and learning, they wanted to create a space and way of training that reflected their approach to health and wellness – Tribe was born.

Nick started out as a logistics manager in Orange County. One night, while walking home from a bar, he was jumped and robbed. Shook by this life-altering experience, he was forced to take a serious look at his life and the path he was on. Understanding that corporate wasn’t his passion, Nick moved to Thailand and became a teacher. While there, he picked up yoga and began exploring the amazing effects it had on his body and mind. Growing his appreciation for movement and meditation, he wanted to share what he learned with others who are currently in the working force, struggling with the same stress levels he once was. He moved back to the Bay Area after several years, spending time as a manager and head yoga teacher for various gyms and studios in San Francisco. Now, Nick is a life coach and mentor, helping Tribers find their passions and tackle life with intention.

Billy began personal training while in college, and moved to Taiwan shortly after graduating. After a few months of teaching, he quickly put his entrepreneurial spirit to work by helping to start and manage a sports company in Taipei. He continued to train and coach basketball, eventually coaching the 17 and under team for Taiwan. After spending four years there, he moved back home to the Bay Area to explore a career in finance, working as an EA and Sales Trader at a hedge fund. In the evenings, he would teach TRX, group fitness classes, and personal train, continuing to grow his knowledge of wellness and training. Now, Billy helps Tribers by empowering them to take control of their health through movement and nutrition, creating confident and strong individuals in the process.

In 2017, not intending to start a business together, Nick and Billy came across a beautiful space in North Beach, San Francisco. Something about it shouted opportunity and they knew they had to have it. After several discussions with friends and family members, Billy’s fiancé convinced the two that they should go into business together to share their vision and passion with the world.

Tribe is the reflection of the brothers’ stories, passions and values.
